In January of 1999, the Governing Board of the Citizens On Patrol decided it would a great idea to show some appreciation for our Beaumont Police Officers, while at the same time provide an opportunity for our community to meet the officers. The first annual Police Officer Appreciation Family Picnic was held on May 1 of that year. This picnic is held at Tyrell Park and is open to all C.O.P. members and police officers of the Beaumont Police Department. It consists of food, drinks, games for children, and door prizes for all attendees. The C.O.P. members work very hard to make this picnic a reality every year. Each year they ask different corporations for gift certificates or prizes that could be used for door prizes for this event, and the sponsors have been quite generous. The picnic has been a great success, and has been attended by members of our City Council and the Mayor.
